ElfEars is a macOS application for on-device dictation and meeting transcription. It uses local machine learning models to convert speech to text entirely on your Mac. ElfEars also offers optional integrations with third-party services (OpenAI, OpenRouter, ChatGPT, Google Calendar) that you may choose to enable.
ElfEars is distributed under the MIT License. The full source code is available in the CH5 source repository. You are free to use, copy, modify, merge, publish, distribute, sublicense, and sell copies of the software, subject to the conditions of the MIT License.
ElfEars integrates with optional third-party services. Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms:
ElfEars is not responsible for the availability, accuracy, or policies of these third-party services.
When you connect Google Calendar, ElfEars requests read-only access to your calendar events. ElfEars's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. You can revoke access at any time from your Google Account permissions page.
ElfEars is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind, express or implied, including but not limited to the warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and noninfringement. The accuracy of speech-to-text transcriptions depends on audio quality, language, and model capabilities. Transcriptions should not be relied upon as verbatim records without verification.
In no event shall the authors or copyright holders of ElfEars be liable for any claim, damages, or other liability, whether in an action of contract, tort, or otherwise, arising from, out of, or in connection with the software or the use or other dealings in the software.
These terms may be updated from time to time. The updated version will be posted here with a revised date. Continued use of ElfEars after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
